Dear friends, December 2012 Lamentations 3:22-23 “his compassions never fail. They are new every morning, Great is thy faithfulness…” The end of the year will soon be upon us. It is a time for us to consider, evaluate, and communicate to our faithful partners the fruit of their investments. Prayer has certainly been a key factor this year. We have overcome countless obstacles on our knees. The LORD is faithful to those who seek His will and are open to His direction. SANTA BARBARA – Home office: We made substantial additional cost adjustments this year, allowing us to maximize the use of funds for all our ministries. Jonathan Enns, our pastoral intern, returned to Germany this fall to work with the explosive B.A.S.E. outreach. Anya Irkhin had her first child in December. The Lord brought us a special woman, in Estee Zimmermann, and she will assume the role of administrative assistant. Anya will return as the Slavic Coordinator. We are continuing in our efforts with a Rabbi to finalize a week of Jewish & Christian students’ dialogue next summer. Doors have opened for my writing/teaching and reaching a far broader audience. We are moving our tent stakes way out as we attempt to have impact across the country. Our community outreach has been a blessing as we have shared the gospel with hundreds of people through intentional relational efforts. We have a new congregation, Old Glory Baptist Church (Pastor JJ Gobbell), meeting at the Bethel facilities on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM. ISRAEL – Our dreams and hopes for our vision for Haifa is far ahead of our projections. We established a new Israel governing board (under AEBM leadership) this year which allows Bethel Haifa substantial freedom to rapidly react and expand ministry opportunities. Our new bomb shelter only needs some finishing touches and will be completed early in 2013. The discipleship ministry can only be described as a gift from God as we witness lives changed forever every day. Maxim and Karina had their first child and are delighted with God’s blessing on their marriage. Our hostel outreach continues to grow and grow, providing additional resources for staffing, maintenance, food, and expansion of our aide to the discipleship ministry. GERMANY - B.A.S.E. and its outreach to the youth in Cologne is nothing short of a powerful move of the Spirit as we see thousands of young people attend every other month and hundreds of new decisions made for the Lord. UKRAINE - Our partnerships in the Ukraine continue to suffer very difficult hardships. The future looks bleak, but in the midst of this trouble, ministry has increased. There is great urgency to bring the confidence of the Lord to young people through discipleship & camps, to the elderly through visitation and encouragement, and evangelism through aggressive relational development. ENGLAND – We are excited about a new ministry field with a partnership in Bristol. We are looking forward to developing outreach to Jewish students and the elderly, as well as relational friendships with Jewish people in this region. Ministry details will be far more informative in our new annual report, which will go out in the spring. We wanted to briefly communicate our joy and delight in the great fruit of our work. Although we work with minimal resources, the Lord has truly blessed us. We are asking our partners to continue to pray very purposefully as we are going to see some very difficult times for Israel and the Jewish people. We need the courage to move forward without fear as the times become more problematic, which will provide us with limitless opportunities. We are asking our supporters to consider a year-end gift to help us end the year without a deficit and to assist us in paying down some of our past debt. We also ask you to consider an increase in your giving which will allow us to take advantage of numerous possibilities, which we are just unable to fund. As the Lord leads, we are confident He will provide. If you have the heart for our 12th Food for the Poor Project we have a $60,000 goal this year to feed the poor and needy Arabs/Jews in Israel. Note: A detailed financial statement is available by calling our office (805) 729-3219 or visit us at www.AEBM.info and make a request. Thank you, dearest friends, for your encouragement, faith and confidence in our calling. May the Lord richly bless you. Pray that we all have an increased passion for lost Jewish people, many of which are disconnected from their Maker. |

Dear friends, Happy EASTER! We pray you are blessed, as we again consider creation’s greatest gift, Jesus our Messiah. This is the 3rd part of our ministry series featuring our work. The Ukraine has a very special role in our ministries and in our hearts. Bethel began in Odessa in 1905; 30% of Odessa’s population was Jewish, and Leon Rosenberg was called where God had already prepared a great ministry for him and his wife. After I took the leadership of AEBM and became more and more familiar with our heritage, I prayed diligently that the Lord would open doors not only to empower us to continue in Israel, but also to allow us to return to the nations where we had previously been so purposeful… Click Here to Read Full Newsletter... |

In 1922 Pastor Leon Rosenberg arrived in Frankfurt, Germany to begin a wonderful ministry to the German community. Pastor Rosenberg remained in Germany for five years establishing a fruitful work. In 1927, after learning that Poland now had a population of 4,000,000 Jews who had escaped communist Russia, the Lord lead the Rosenberg family to plant another new work in Lodtz, Poland.

1 Peter 2:9 tells us: “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” I am asked weekly to describe what AEBM (Bethel) really does. My own best description is that we are a patchwork of ministries on three continents whose desire is to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ as Messiah to Hebrew people. For over 110 years, this has been the core value of AEBM, from it’s beginning in Odessa, in Germany, in Poland, in England, in the USA and then in Israel beginning in 1948 when the State of Israel was proclaimed. I will describe each area of our ministry over the next few months to better acquaint our partners and supporters with our work. This month let me begin with our work in BETHEL HAIFA.

Every few years I take a trip with our oldest daughter Sarah. Going away with Sarah has always been a wonderful experience. Our last trip was to Madrid and we had fabulous time as we explored this city, attended the bullfights, and watched flamingo dancing. Now in her twenties, I felt she was mature enough for us to speak transparently about our past. To assure that there was no bitterness, anger, or even resentment for some things I had done. I wanted our relationship to continue to move forward in a way, that would bless her. We talked about memories, negative feelings and we forgave each other. We were truly healed through the power of forgiveness. That night I thought of Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ has forgiven you.” Forgiving others isn’t an easy task, and doing so in love is even more problematic. But as believers we are always called to walk the road of forgiveness. Click Here to Read Full Newsletter... |

Dear friends, As you can see, we are changing our monthly communication style. We have a heart to be more informative and relevant, to give our supporters a clear picture of our mission. If you have any thoughts, we would surely be blessed by your suggestions. We are often asked what we are all about and how this mission came into being. Its founder was Rev. Leon Rosenberg, who was born in 1875, the son of a Rabbi who was expected to become a Rabbi. In Rabbinical school, he was caught reading a New Testament and was expelled as a result. The damage of this act was so severe that the entire family had to relocate in the Ukraine. Leon continued his studies, both rabbinical and secular. The New Testament had such an impact on Leon that he eventually converted to Christianity in 1899, after completing seminary in Hamburg, Germany. This caused great friction in the family, and there was little contact between Leon and his new wife and their parents. In 1905, Leon moved his family to Odessa, in southern Russia. He was called to minister Click Here to Read Full Newsletter... |
